Preventative Care for Cats

Like people, cats can live longer and healthier with preventative care. If you live in Canton or the surrounding communities, you can count on Acres Mill Veterinary Clinic for quality cat care. Regular care is critical to the health of your feline pet. Our veterinary team offers the following preventative care services to protect your kit:

Wellness Exams

Annual wellness exams can help keep your cat in good health. Annual checkups consist of a nose to tail inspection of your pet to detect signs of sickness in its early stages. We’ll check your cat's eyes, nose, ears, mouth, and fur. If your kit shows signs of health problems, we may order blood, skin, or fecal tests to get an accurate diagnosis of his condition so we can recommend treatment.

Vaccinations protect your feline from life threatening diseases like rabies, feline leukemia, distemper, and more. We’ll recommend the most appropriate vaccines for your cat, taking into account his or her age, breed, and lifestyle. Baby kittens will be given a series of vaccines starting around 6 weeks of age until they're 16 weeks old to boost their immune system. Afterwards, we’ll put your kit on a regular vaccination schedule to keep him safe.

Nutritional Counseling

Cats need a nutritious, balanced, diet to maintain good health. Your Canton veterinarians can recommend healthy cat foods that can benefit your kit. A protein-rich diet will keep your pet at a healthy weight, provide energy and boost his immune system to protect him from diseases. As your pet grows older, we can help you adjust his diet to promote good health in his senior years.

Parasite Control

Parasites can seriously impair your pet’s health, causing such health problems as diarrhea, intestinal inflammation, vomiting, and stomach infections. Your kit may become weak and weary due to loss of appetite. Our Canton veterinarians can prescribe medications to protect your kit from parasites along with other pests like fleas, ticks, and lice.

Spay/Neuter Procedures

Spay/neuter surgeries prevent unwanted pregnancies and litters. If you're unable to care for baby pets, talk to your vet about spaying or neutering your cat. These surgeries can be performed in cats as early as 4 months of age. Spay/neuter procedures can also extend your cat's lifespan by protecting him or her against medical problems that can threaten health.

Behavior Counseling

We also offer behavior counseling to help your kit develop good habits and behavior that will make it easier for him to integrate into your home.
